Well, this is the third week of our Spotlight feature, and this week, we're featuring James (or Devin, as he prefers to be known). Devin and I came to meet through school, as we both had the same professor for English Composition. We had a project in this class that basically started the course of this entire blog...and well, now here we are.
Now that the blog has been turned a year old, I'm very pleased to call this blogger one of my partners here @ Mealightenment. I personally feel he's got great writing skills, finds random joints in parts of town I would never think to visit, and can tell a story with the best of them. I was excited the day I thought to ask him to join me in blogging, and I'm still super excited about everything he and Jacob churn out today. 2012 was a great year for our blog because of content and our team, and 2013 will be even better.
So here is the last installment of our Getting to Know @ Mealightenment [Week 3] Spotlight, featuring Devin Thornburgh.

Getting to Know @Mealightenment
(Week 3) Spotlight-Devin Thornburgh
DT: 2012 has brought a lot of growth for Mealightenment. I’m excited to see that continued growth, and support from our viewers. I really want us to host a few events to help donate to charities and help our local community. That’s what I feel Mealightenment is all about, helping the community we all love!
If you died and came back to life as a food, what would you like to be?
DT: Something no one wants to eat, that’s for sure! I have horrible zombie dreams, and being eaten does not seem fun to me. So lets say SPAM…. I think I should be safe as long as the world doesn't come to an end.
What is your favorite recipe that we've posted on the blog?
DT: So far, I love every recipe that we post… I haven’t told the other guys (Justin and Trick) but I make every dish they post on the blog. Eggs in a basket, are probably my favorite though. I don’t like breakfast foods that much, but with some awesome oat-bread, its AMAZING!
What's the best meal you have for a hangover cure?
DT: Yellow Gatorade, is a must. I usually add some awesome spicy turkey sub from Quizno’s… I don’t know what it is, but yellow Gatorade, a shower, yellow Gatorade and that sub always cures it (in that order).
Have you ever been smacked in the face by a meal (literally; i.e. pie, care, burrito, etc)?
DT: After watching an episode of Tosh.0 my cousin got an idea… "pie in the face, nut tap, bitch slap" was the episode. I walk in the door from work, talking on the phone. My girlfriend at the time is sitting on the counter acting like she was texting (actually recording). I come up the stairs and my cousin is standing there with the pie, and decided not to attack me since I was on my phone. I take that brief moment to push the pie in his face, nut tap, and then bitch slap him. HILARIOUS!... until I turned around and he got a second pie (larger, we were going to eat this one) out of the fridge. He totally surprised me and returned the combo to me. I wish I could find that video...
When you were asked to join the Mealightenment team, what was your first thought?
DT: When I went with Justin to the first interview, I was already hooked. We talked about the blog he created, and hadn’t done anything with it. I was excited, and started pushing him to let me join up with him and start churning some content. I was looking for something fun to do (also an excuse to eat and tell people about it). We were in English class together in college… he had seen my writing and had seen my A in the class; he decided that I would be a good fit. We then started our epic journey that has lead us here...
We focus on Indianapolis Reviews, but what if we were based in another city? What city would you hope for and why?
DT: Chicago, definitely. There are definitely TONS of amazing and independent places to find. I would love to hear all of the stories from some of these smaller businesses as well. Chicago is a great melting pot of people and cultures, and would be such a blast to explore.
You were brought onto the blog for your talents. What strengths to do bring to the table, and how do you plan to use them to make this blog better?
DT: Justin and I hit it off talking about food… obviously. I love to cook unconventional and unique things. I always learn a type of cooking style (like reductions for sauces) and start trying to create the most interesting thing I can, like the Chianti gravy I made. Who in the right mind makes wine gravy? Clearly I do, but in my opinion food is fun, and you have to enjoy it. So I try to do something out of the ordinary. It is usually successful, and I feel that that is what I bring to the blog, a very unconventional style of cooking that peaks the interest of our viewers.
